Infidelity Statistics

Cheating partner suspicions
Infidelity is one of the most emotionally traumatic and stressful events a person can go through.
If you’ve been cheated on in the past it can cause serious trust issues in future relationships.
It can also be difficult to distinguish between fact and paranoia, especially if a partner has been unfaithful in the past.
Unfortunately, in 2017 infidelity became even more common, perhaps spurred on by modern technology and online websites for married people wanting to play away.
Recent statistics reveal that in over a third of marriages, one or both partners admit to cheating at some point in the relationship.
And a whopping 45% of men and 22% of women say they have cheated on their current partner.
Statistics reveal cheating can happen at any point in a relationship. However, a recent study found that people are most likely to sleep with someone else within the first two years of marriage.
Who are they most likely to cheat with?
Most affairs start with co workers a recent study revealed.
As many as 36% of men and women say they have slept with someone from work. A further 35% of men and women admit to cheating while on a business trip
And shockingly 17% say they’ve had an affair with a sister-in-law or brother-in-law.
People who have cheated before are also 350% more likely to cheat again – so the saying “once a cheater, always a cheater” seems to be based on fact.

Why do people cheat?
This is a very complicated question, with thousands of possible answers. However, studies suggest men seek affairs for sexual gratification, while women search out intimacy and affection.
Revenge also seems to be a big driver, with 9% of men and 14% of women citing it as the reason they cheated.
Of course sometimes people fall in love with someone else, but this is actually a pretty uncommon reason for playing away.
How do people cheat?
In 2017 most adulterers met their extramarital partner at work. However, modern technology has also given cheaters new ways to cover up their lies.
Not only are there websites for married people wanting to cheat, there are also apps like Hide My Calls and Hide My Texts, which give people the ability to hide communications received from specific contacts.
Technology has also forced couples to renegotiate what they consider to be cheating.
For example, does talking to a webcam girl count as cheating? How about sending flirtatious texts?
It’s best to have this chat early on in the relationship so everyone knows where they stand and no-one gets hurt.
What are the main signs of cheating?
Everyone is different, but a recent Ask Me Anything Reddit thread asked “from personal experience what are the signs your partner is cheating?”
Six signs of cheating that came up the most included:
1. They frequently accuse you of cheating
2. Suspicious phone activity
3. They want MORE sex
4. They lie about where they are
5. They go missing with no explanation
6. They blame you for relationship problems
